God is in the Details - Architectural Thresholds

Curated by Peta Heffernan and Sarah King

This exhibition focused on the work of seven Tasmanian architectural practices: Liminal Studio, 1 + 2 Architecture, Forward Brianese + Partners’, Morris-Nunn & Associates, Dean Baird and Karryn Irwin, Maria Gigney, and Terroir.

Each practice was given the opportunity to re-create at a true scale (1:1) an architectural detail from a built or proposed project that explores the concept ‘architectural thresholds’ relating to the theme ‘Design at the Edge’. The idea of presenting a very small, but considered part of the whole (building) to an audience in the context of an exhibition gave a heightened sense of integrity to details that might otherwise only be appreciated by the architect and client.

It also acknowledged the craft involved on the part of the builder and the relationship between builder and architect. Architects worked closely with their own builders to construct each detail. The exhibition also involved the curators as exhibition designers.
