Amanda Davies

DETACHED artist-in-residence


Amanda Davies is known for her figurative paintings that often deal with unease. Davies engages in a highly self-reflexive art practice exploring portraiture and self-portraiture. Amanda majored in painting when she completed her studies in 2004 at the University of Tasmania BFA (hons, first class), Hobart. She lives in Premaydena, Tasmania and is represented by Bett Gallery, Hobart.

Davies has work in numerous collections including the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Devonport Regional Gallery, La Trobe University Collection, Wollongong Gallery, Artbank, Maatsuyker Collection, Artemisia Collection and private collections. Awards include the Portia Geach Memorial Award 2017, Arts Tasmania Claudio Alcorso Residency 2017, Bruny Island Art Prize 2016, City of Albany Art Prize 2014, Australian Council of the Arts, Rome Residency 2013, Shotgun, a partnership with Contemporary Art Tasmania and Detached 2011, Rosamond McCulloch Studio Residency 2006.
